Fine eating from fine folks.
Poblanos Tacos and More (www.poblanostacos.com). Just fine eating. EVERY. TIME. Oscar Flores and family fix some fine traditional Mexican and Salvadoran fare. This week, on their visit to Tarboro Brewing Company, we were fortunate enough to be blessed with chorripollo tacos (with rice and beans), chicken quesadilla, and carne asada loaded nachos.
The chorripollo tacos are always out of this world good with some salsa verde. The chicken and chorizo sausage blend together to create a flavor explosion in your mouth. I always get mine “con todos” or with everything. This is the “all the way” option. This means the meat, chopped onions, and cilantro. Again, these should be topped with whichever salsa you choose. I like salsa verde because of the flavor and just a little bite. If you’re scared of spice, maybe just try a bit first. The red sauce will be too much for you unless you like things spicy.
The carne asada loaded nachos are Alisa’s go-to dish. Again, we get these “con todos.” This means, steak, nacho cheese, onions, tomatoes, sour cream, and pickled jalapenos. Sometimes they have their homemade chips which are crispier and sometimes they have something along the lines of Tostitos. Both ways are good. Slight advantage to homemade chips as they hold better when shoveling toppings into your mouth. No salsa is necessary at all for these, in my opinion.
This week, we were feeling a little “extra” (as the youngins say) and so we got a chicken quesadilla (or case-a-deal to a good friend of mine). It was loaded with meat and cheese. The seasoning on the chicken made it so that no condiments were needed whatsoever. Not much else needs to be said about this.
As the truck was at Tarboro Brewing Company (www.tarborobrewingcompany.com), I got a 6 pack of the Golden Ticket, a helles style lager, I believe. As is the usual with beers from TBC, it was delicious. It also paired better with tacos than my go-to Seed Spitter watermelon gose. I can’t say enough about the delicious beers that TBC continues to churn out. But, that should be reserved for another post. Otherwise, this blog will surely die in a week or so. Let’s drag this thing out a little longer.
Check back later…I may just try another food truck this weekend. We’ll see.
